CLUB TRIALS CHAMPIONSHIP RULES (revised January 1998)
1. Eliglible events to be all open-to-Centre events, the regulations
for which appear in the Gazette, and that are open to Braintree
riders, and all Braintree Club events. Excluded are other "Group"
trials, National, any events run outside of Essex, Suffolk or Norfolk,
and any trial run by another club on the same day as any Braintree
Club competition event.
2. The Competition year will run from 1 January through to and
including the first week in December, but to include any Braintree
event held in December (to allow receipt of results and compilation
of awards in time for the Club's Annual Presentation).
3. Club Championship awards for all classes will be based on a
rider's accumulated score over all eligible events through the year.
A rider's score equals the marks he loses, so that not competing,
retirement, or entering under another club incurs the maximum marks
possible for that event (number of sections mutiplied by 5).
4. Novice (standard route) rides to count for the Novice Championship
and "Clubman" (Novice easy route) rides to count for a
separate Clubman Championship, eligible for Centre-gradeded Novices
only. This allows a rider to choose routes but his marks for the
event will be allocated to the Championship class ridden at that
event. Where an event caters for the standard route only, all marks
lost by Novice riders, whether or not they ride predominately Clubman
route, will be attributed to the Novice (standard route) Championship
table.
5. In the case of the Clubman Championship, the Best Clubman award
at the year end cannot be won more than once. This is to encourage
newcomers, and also the more seasoned "clubmen" to tackle
their recognised official standard Novice route. Otherwise, a rider
stays in, and is eligible to win, the Championship class he holds
in the Centre Grading List at 1 January.
6. Where riders have gained a known advantage over others in their
class by riding an easier route, or they have not complied with
the regulations (e.g. riding out of class, late entry), their results
for that event will not count. The onus is on the rider to query
any apparent error in this respect with the Club Recorder following
publication of position tables, since, for example, trials results
sheets often do not make clear what routes have been ridden.
7. Year-end Club Championship awards will be presented for best
in each class (Youth, Novice, Clubman, Intermediate, Expert, Pre-65
and Sidecar). A Novice Runner-up award will also be given. In the
case of the Youth classes, awards will be discretionary upon the
number of riders taking part over the year and also the number within
each of the age groups A, B, C, and D, as defined by the A.C.U.
Standing Youth Trials Regulations. There is also a "Best Under-16
competitor" award (the Eddie Wass Trophy) made at the year
end which is open to all disciplines including trials.
OTHER TRIALS AWARDS
Other trials awards are presented at the year end for competitions
over and above the Club Championship awards. Last year these were:
Charlie Turner Trophy for best Greybeard over the Club's Summer
Series (see separate rules below); Bob Drane Summer Series Youth
Trials Championship - 3 trophies awarded discretionarily over the
4 classes for best performance over the Summer Series; Hunnable
Cup for best Novice over the Summer Series; Jack Warner Cup for
best Sidecar crew over the Summer Series; Jacob Cup for best Novice
over the Inter Club/Centre Championship rounds; Alan Moth Cup for
best Expert or Intermediate over the Inter Club/Centre Championship
rounds. Additional special awards are made at individual events:
last year they included the Covenbrook Cup for best Greybeard (over
40 years) and Mrs Maud Warner Memorial Trophy for best overall rider
at the Club's March trial; Witham RAFA Trophy for best Novice at
the Club's December trial. Further awards are made that reflect
a rider's performance over the year: last year they included the
Sidecar Trials Passenger Cup for best passenger (regardless of driver)
over the year and Anniversary Cup for best modern class solo rider
not winning a trials award over the year or at the year end.
